Welcome to the new Love Merkuri! Things are looking much fresher and feeling more like me. I’ve changed so much as a person and as a creative in this last year, being in very strict lockdown for a good portion of 2020, 112 days(!!) in Melbourne, Australia it gave me a good opportunity to explore and discover new styles and continue to evolve. I love the minimalist look, monochromatic style, modern, neutral colours with a touch of bold colour.
My Own Shop! Woohoo!!
This has been something I’ve been wanting to do for quite some time, but like many things, I tend to delay not wanting to face the work that is needed to put in to get everything set up.
It’s been taking weeks. My eyes watering with the tedious details required to make everything secure and ensuring it’s a website that can be trusted.
Okay, Okay I know there aren’t any products in there…yet, I am still setting up a few things in the backend and hey, it’s okay to launch and then tweak later! So in the meantime, you can still visit my Etsy Shop.
I decided to stick with WordPress
There was a period where I contemplated going over to Square space and building my online shop there. I even opened up a trial account, but when it came to “simply drag and drop” I freaking had no clue and decided to ditch the idea and stay put with WordPress. I’ve been using this platform since 2012, why bother leaving something you’ve gotten to know so well. Plus l am loving my new blog/website look, I got this beautiful WordPress theme from: Pix & Hue on Creative Market and even had it professionally installed by Pix because, well I’m learning to outsource things I am not strong in. This is huge (for me) because I am someone who doesn’t ask for help and prefers to figure things out doing everything all by myself. Plus, I got to support a small business.
I moved from MailChimp to Flodesk
For a while, I was using MailChimp as a place for my lovely new customers to sign up to grab a sweet discount coupon code. But something was missing…Ease of use.
Flodesk provides beautiful templates you can add your own branding style.
It allows me to organize my audience into segments, making it super easy to create different welcome email sequences.
It’s currently in beta phase and they’re running a special of 50% off the monthly price or you can try for one month for free. Click on the image to check out my full post about why I made the switch!
Photography (Well, Not Really)
My photography forever continues to be one of the loves of my life! Although there are times where I have gone for long periods at a time not picking up my camera, but photography will always remain one of my most favourite creative outlets. I have been practicing minimalism which has been a nice little challenge, I’m so used to cluttering up my entire space with as many things as possible.
And I continue to have an ongoing love for floral photography and this could be the year I finally have photo prints for sale (but don’t hold your breath)! We are spending more and more time at home, so creating your home as a sanctuary involves beautifying those walls around us and our surroundings.
Now. I don’t need to remind you how much of a WTF year 2020 was, and I know there are still many parts of the world still struggling in strict lockdowns. Hello, I am in a state in Australia that experienced one of the strictest lockdowns for 112 days!!! However, it gave me quite a shakeup (I’m sure it shook many of us) and made me examine, really examine pretty much every area of my life.
Before quitting social media I was in a deep creative rut, you wouldn’t think so with the products I was able to put into my Etsy Shop.
And since I am currently off social media, lo’ and behold, I am able to start writing again…yes, social media can and will kill your creativity, a blog post will be coming about that!
My new focus for my website is I plan on sharing more helpful (hopefully) blog posts on the things I learn about running an online personal brand/business, the tools I use that you may find useful for yourself and spiritual/personal growth.
For now, everything is being tweaked, slowly adding products to my shop and getting back into the flow of writing again. I hope this will become a place you enjoy coming back to again and again. You’re safe here and I want you to know you’re welcome to hang out anytime!
